Our backyards are full of birds that look a little different this time of year: It’s time for the fledglings to leave the nest. Fledglings are learning to be out on their own, under the careful watch of their parents. You might even see a parent feed a fledgling a seed from the feeder.
Some fledglings may be found hopping around on the ground, unable to fly yet. That’s a natural part of their development. Their parents will watch over them and feed them as they learn independence skills. They will be okay as long as they can avoid predators. At this time of year especially, please keep your cats inside.
Photographing bird behavior at this time of year can be fascinating!
